As you learned in a previous tutorial, you can easily change your Windows 7 password in just a few clicks; but, if you have sufficiently "elevated privileges" (namely by knowing the administrator's password), you can also change the password of other user accounts on your Windows 7 PC. In this tutorial, we will explain how to change passwords of another profile on your machine, and a few steps you should always take before and after changing someone else's Windows password, whether this is a work computer or a personal computer you have at home, and share with other friends, roommates, or family members.
Change Windows 7 password of other user accounts
This is how you access other profile credentials on a computer running Windows 7:
- Start by clicking on the start button, and type "change account passwords" inside the text field when the start menu opens. When the search results have loaded, click on the "User Accounts" link near the top of the search results, listed under "Control Panel":

- Windows 7 will open the Control Panel with the "Make changes to your user account" screen preselected by default, which affects your own account's security settings. Click instead on the "Manage another account" link listed a bit further down:

- Windows 7 will next load a listing of all the Windows profile (user accounts) that have been created on your computer (and that have not be deleted since). Just click on the icon representing the user whose password you want to change.
- As soon as you do, the Control Panel will show you the screen for that particular user: click on the "Change the password" link near the top of the page:

- Windows 7 will first require that you enter the Administrator's password, to make sure that you have permissions to access and edit other user's account settings and profile. Enter it in the appropriate text field, and move on to the next two fields. Note that if you are already logged in as a Windows administrator, you will not need to enter the "master password".
- To change the selected user's password, type it inside the "New password", and re-type it for confirmation inside the "Confirm new password" field, just like you do when changing your own profile's password on Windows 7.

- To help the other user remember his or her password in case it is forgotten, Windows 7 also allows you to enter a "Password Hint" - this is a word or phrase that will help the user recall his or her password after they have tried a few times to logon with the wrong credentials. We strongly recommend that you enter a password hint, even if you are changing the password for someone else; and if you do allow them to change their password later on, make sure that they also use this security feature to prevent remaining locked out of their own account!
- Once you are done, click on the Change password button, and Windows 7 will update the other user account's credentials immediately, and apply the new setting. If applicable, remember to tell that other user that you have changed their Windows password.

And this is how easily Windows 7 lets you change the password of another user account!
